About Me

I'm a Software Engineer and Data Scientist who is currently working as a Research Assistant at the University of York, England, where I also finished my PhD. The topic of my thesis was `Deep Complex-Valued Neural Networks for Natural Language Processing`. My current research focuses on speech recognition and word embeddings used for question answering tasks.

Short Bio

I have finished my PhD funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) at the University of York, England. My thesis topic was `Deep Complex-Valued Neural Networks for Natural Language Processing`. Prior to my PhD, I obtained my BSc in Computer Science and Complex Software Systems from the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhine-Sieg, Germany. Throughout my time as a student I worked as a Research Assistant on different research projects. While studying I taught Java on a graduate and undergraduate level, but also worked as a freelance Software Engineer and part-time IT Systems Administrator.

Interests

My area of interest is Machine Learning and its applications in Natural Language Processing. I'm working on novel approaches to word embeddings in order to improve question answering systems and knowledge bases. It is my goal to make state-of-art Machine Learning tools accessible and easy to use for industry and consumers.

Previously, I have worked on complex-valued neural networks and medical image segmentation using Deep Learning.
